There's a new tape in town that's stirring up some buzz. Jalen Mcluvin, an emerging R&B artist quickly gaining recognition for his unique sound, has just released a mix of chilly vibes and dreamy tunes that'll take you on a journey through your feels.

Crafted during the summer heat but perfect for those cozy winter nights, this project is the result of collaboration with Eli. Although Jalen didn't lay down the tracks himself, his influence in shaping the vibe was significant. With his soulful voice, relatable lyrics, and impressive musicality, Jalen ensured the final product hit all the right notes.

We had a conversation with Jalen to discover more about his sources of inspiration, artistic approach, and the key message he intends to convey through his sound - this is what he shared with us:

How would you describe your sound in this new release?
Me and Eli were going for a colder, more ethereal vibe on this tape. We started writing, producing, and recording this tape last summer in hopes to get it out during the winter. I wanted there to be real contrast between the last LP and this one since I pretty much started recording this right after it dropped.

I made it my mission to have a more polished and cleaner sound than before on this tape, and I think that I accomplished that. I also wanted to dive deeper into my emotional states on this writing some more melancholic, “heartbreak” songs for the first time ever really. It was nice to step out of my comfort zone.

What is your creative process like, how do you feel it resonated with the music?
Lately I’ve been trying to find a balance between music and my personal life. I didn’t really plan the recording sessions of these songs because I wanted the emotion of them to feel authentic. Working with Eli was amazing for me because he would always give some great constructive criticism when I’d send him back demos. Before I was really just going off the opinion of myself and a few people in my close circle before dropping a song. This time around it was just me and him locked in. I didn’t want any one to hear this project in it’s entirety until I was ready.

What Is The Message You Wish Listeners To Take Away From The Tracks?
Of course love is always a central theme to my music, but with ‘EVERYTHING WILL BE JUST FINE,’ I wanted to dive deeper into what I think love means to me. There’s always gonna be ups and downs in relationships, but I think how you navigate those ups and downs is important. ‘SI’L VOUS PLAIT’ touches on feelings of love and lust, and how they both pull you in different directions. I wanted the final track, ‘YOU DESERVE WAY MORE’ to do the same, but all of the tracks in between take you on a little bit of an emotional rollercoaster.

Be on the lookout for another tape later this year. I love house music and it’s one of my favorite genre of beats to hop on. I think it’ll be fun to get back behind the boards and produce as well, so this will be a cool place to start.”
