Dorian on dealing with his “mixed emotions”

MUSIC|WAVYMOMENT

If you’re looking for a lo-fi, heartfelt track, Dorian has delivered with his newest single ‘Mixed Emotions’. Dorian is based out in Louisiana, a state rich with culture. In his newest single, Dorian speaks on losing a girl to pettiness and has now found himself in a situation where he has feelings for someone who is in another relationship. She knows who is better for her but for some reason won’t acknowledge it. This leaves Dorian in a place of reflection and unfortunately wishing he hadn’t let her go. Dorian expressed his vulnerability on this track with his delivery, the pain was felt in his voice, almost as if he meditated and reflected right before walking into the booth. Throughout the whole track, Dorian kept that consistent vibe and gave us a glimpse into how he’s feeling and dealing with this predicament.

We tapped in with Dorian and this is what he had to say:

How would you describe the music you typically create nowadays?

Although I’ve always worked on music in some aspect, I’m still in the beginning stages of releasing music to the public, so I can’t really describe the music I make. I just try to never limit myself and what I believe I’m capable of so I’m never put in a box along the way.

My single before this one was strictly rap, confidence on the cusp of arrogance. So with this one, I made the conscious decision to do a complete 180° and put out something that showed more vulnerability and strayed the lines between rap and r&b. It really just depends on my mood and the energy I wanna put into the universe at the time that decides what I wanna create.

What Is The Message You Wish Listeners To Take Away From The Tracks?

The message I wish for listeners to take away from my music, is one, thanks for taking the time to listen to me at all. In the grand scheme of things, I’m no one, so that means so much to me. More importantly, just to think freely and never be afraid to be yourself. Always know that you’re great, whether or not anybody else believes it. Never limit yourself to your environment. Be free.

What is your creative process like, especially in your most recent projects?

My creative process is just life in general, experience. Good or bad, all the things that brought me to where I am today. I appreciate and accept it all.

When I’m writing, I really just get quiet and in my head. The rest just depends on the mood of the song. When it’s something more upbeat and fun, I don’t really care about my surroundings, but if it’s something where I need to be more transparent, I don’t really like having that many distractions around me. Pulling from things that I don’t speak on often, I tend to put myself in a headspace where I like to just be alone, in my dimly lit room, with nothing but instrumentals playing. I feed off of the energy, good and bad.

There’s one producer(Secret Stash) who’s work I really gravitate to, he’s even taken feedback from me and made changes that I asked for on beats to really help bring my ideas to fruition, so I can’t wait until we’re able to really lock in and create.

The inspiration behind this song is just being split and having to decide between chasing your dreams or being with the person you really care about, and ultimately letting them go because you know it’s for the best, for them.

Any Exclusive information / announcements you got for the vibenextdoor, ( Collabs, Giveaways, Events, Shows)

Check out my previous single “Elevation”, from a few months ago and my 2019 collab project “Quiet As Kept”(which was the start of everything. I was told that you can even hear the confidence change in my voice, from back then to now), back then it was just us testing the waters, but now, I know I’m here to stay. Both out now on all platforms.

I plan on dropping my next single in the next few months. I don’t have an official release date for my project, but it’s coming soon. The journey’s just getting started. Stay tuned and thank you.
