Take a trip to “Thessaloniki” with Everything OShauN

MUSIC|WAVYMOMENT

EverythingOShauN’s newest release “Thessaloniki” has one of the catchiest hooks to drop in 2021. EverythingOShauN was born to parents of Nigerian and Jamaican descent and currently resides in the musical hub of Toronto, Canada. With Bob Marley and Fela Kuti being the music forefathers along with the influence of the Toronto sound, EverythingOShauN brings a blend of bold, melodic soundtracks. He’s able to bring his musical visions to life with the help of producer and brother, Xpress aka DJXP. “Thessaloniki” gives me PartyNextDoor vibes; in the sense of some similarities in the caribbean inspired sound, but executed in their own unique ways. On this track he speaks directly to his love interest, telling her the next time she’s gonna need him he’s gonna be loving his life, not worrying about her and having moved on. He drives home the message with strong, melodic main vocals, accompanied by creative ad libs that will have you singing along by the end.

How would you describe the music you typically create nowadays?

The more music I create and the more I release I try to delve a little deeper and draw inspirations from real life as much as I can while still maintaining creative ambiguity. The more opportunities I have to drop music I try to give a little bit more of myself, whether it be just vibes that I’m feeling or have felt or if I’m looking to get something off my conscious that I need to put into song. Being of Nigerian and Jamaican background, I look to always expand that into my musical palette with afrobeat, and slang used in both cultures etc.

What is your creative process like, especially in your most recent projects?

To be honest my creative process really varies, like I was saying I do like to take things from my life and weave into whatever music I’m making, whether it represents a feeling that I feel or a mantra I’m trying to tell myself, and through that and sharing that with other people hopefully they can feel what I’m saying and either learn from it or use it as motivation for themselves. But for songs specifically, sometimes I get a beat from my brother XP and he tells me the idea he sees for the song, or I’ll hum or beatbox something specific that I want to hear in production and he makes that. I also will sometimes freestyle melodies when brainstorming and form a track around that, and sometimes I’ll write a whole record. I do feel like I’m blessed to be in a position to create from various styles and each has their own strengths and weakness. I try to always keep an open mind when approaching a song.

What Is The Message You Wish Listeners To Take Away From The Tracks?

This track serves as multiple things for me. One, to show respect to my pops who migrated from Nigeria to Thessaloniki, Greece to go to school. Since the place is really beautiful with lush beaches, architecture and of course women, I also wanted to use the place as a metaphor when speaking about past relationships with people that the next time they need me I’ll be so far away and in such a beautiful place (like Thessaloniki) that they will no longer have that access to me since they took me for granted. Many people can relate to being taken for granted and being underappreciated. This was the music translation of that feeling that I had and wanted to convey.
